ITS Taiwan Secures Hosting Rights for the 2029 ITS World Congress

Date: 2024/09/16

At a pivotal meeting on September 15, held just ahead of the 2024 ITS World Congress in Dubai, representatives of the global Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) community announced their decision to award the hosting rights for the 2029 ITS World Congress to the city of Taipei. This victory represents a significant achievement for Taiwan, following years of dedication from ITS Taiwan and the Taipei City Government. After three previous bids, Taiwan’s perseverance was finally rewarded at this year’s event in Dubai.

The winning bid was spearheaded by ITS Taiwan President and Chairman of CECI Engineering Consultants, Inc., Taiwan, Dr. Shih Yi-fang, and Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-An. Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-Chuan also attended the event in Dubai, contributing to the successful campaign. This achievement is the result of meticulous planning and the combined efforts of Taiwan’s industry, government, academic institutions, and research sectors. The 2029 ITS World Congress in Taipei is expected to showcase the city’s advancements in smart transportation and the ICT industry. If aligned with major events such as the Smart City Summit and Expo or SEMICON Taiwan, attendees may experience two large-scale international conferences simultaneously, promoting cross-industry collaboration and enriching knowledge exchange across various fields.

Reflecting on the journey, Dr. Shih Yi-fang emphasized the long-standing efforts behind this victory. “Taiwan has long been at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation, and we have believed in our capability to host an ITS World Congress for years. Now, we are immensely proud that this opportunity and achievement have finally been realized.” said Dr. Shih, who led numerous international visits and discussions with ITS leaders as part of Taiwan’s bid preparations.

The 2029 ITS World Congress will be held in Taipei in September 2029, attracting over 20,000 participants from across the globe. The event will feature more than 200 sessions, forums, and exhibitions, with over 1,000 prominent manufacturers and organizations showcasing the latest advancements in ITS technologies. Under the theme "Harmonizing an AI-Driven ITS World," the Congress will highlight cutting-edge innovations such as AI-enhanced ITS applications, early problem detection through AI, accelerated decision-making processes, and the integration of smart technologies across diverse industries. This prestigious event is set to be a landmark showcase of ITS innovations, advancing knowledge and cooperation among ITS members worldwide.
